one block wonders

I recently took a class on "one Block Wonders" , It was really really fun, if you're looking for something different then try this, it's addictive! I recomend taking a class or urging your local guild or quilt shop to offer this class, all you need is 5 1/2 yards of just one fabric that has a 24 inch repeat, lots of pins and a 60 degree equilateral triangle ruler and you're set to go!
I have a lot more blocks to make and rearrange them somewhat but you can see how the design starts to pop out, and motion starts to happen!

Did you Know?

Hey Quilters! March 15, 2008 is National Quilting Day! How are you planning to commemorate the day? My guild has rented space and we are gathering at 10:00 am to sew all day until three in the afternoon. We are making fabric postcards this year, a new experience for me since it is something I haven't tried yet, should be a lot of fun!

Emma's Garden Quilt

I bought this kit from the Fat Quarter Shop and it's adorable! There was more than enough fabric in the kit, very cute. Hsd to pay special attention to placement and pressing but it was well worth the extra time spent, and the prairie points were a perfect finishing touch to this quilt. See it and the directions in the April 2008 McCall's Magazine.

THREAD

This week I decided to really get into trying different threads, As a rule I have always used mettler's silk finish 50 weight for everything on my machine, and this week I tried using sulky blendable 30 wt in the bobbin with invisible thread on top, and WOW! I loved it, the colors blend in very well, so what i want to know is what everyone uses and how they use it, I am going to try a long staple egyptian cotton next , It's kind of fun to experiment a little, and now i want to know everything about the different types of thread and the applications. Does anyone have or tried the new sidewinder for winding bobbins?

Quilt Labels

Quilt labels have been a real source of irritation for me. I really don't like the way a label looks when you write on the fabric. I started using my computer to print out labels on the printed treasures paper and was really pleased. Thanks to Jen from cre8tive quilter finding It's mine usa www.itsmineusa.com I found an affordable ready made woven label I can buy in bulk, They are great! So I thought I would post about some other options I found that worked. Yesterday I found a cd of vintage victorian images at www.kirkcollection.com/vintagesewing.html there's 171 images you just print right off your printer and not just for labels, there is also a another cd here for making a quilt journal, very nice!
Another one I found where you order on fabric or download the image was at www.ezhomearts.com lots to see here.
I also had bought the HP custom label cd and it's okay but I did have difficulty getting exactly what I wanted but also works for making a gift card and you can customize your text and import your own images.

"Roman Holiday"

Quick and easy to make, it took just 20 fat quarters plus a little yardage for borders and binding and of course backing. Warm and cozy!
